An increase could signify greater awareness, but also higher number of cases.ISLAMABAD: There has been an increase in the number of AIDS patients registered at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), compared to last year.

Dr Rizwan Qazi, head of the Pims Centre for Treatment and Prevention of AIDS said 237 HIV-positive patients were registered last year, while 148 patients have been registered in the first six months of the year. If the trend continues, the hospital may receive around 300 patients this year. In 2012, 257 cases were registered. The total number of HIV-positive patients registered with the centre since its establishment in 2005 has reached 1,831 with 10 deaths reported so far.

Employees were addressed on Multiple Concurrent Partnerships, Consistent Condom use and Safe Male Circumcision. This was to strengthen private sectors' role in managing and combating the spread of HIV and AIDS.

Early struggles in developing a response to the HIV and AIDS pandemic were remembered by African women church leaders who gathered in Nairobi, Kenya to celebrate more than 30 years of their Christian ministry in the churches of their region.

The event brought together over 100 women church leaders from Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Swaziland, Ghana, Uganda, Eritrea, Rwanda, Tanzania, Cameroon and the Netherlands at the St. Andrews Church (Presbyterian Church of East Africa) on 23 June.

Meskipun tuberkulosis (TBC) adalah penyakit yang bisa dicegah dan disembuhkan, WHO merilis masih ada 155 ribu orang terinfeksi setiap tahunnya di 33 negara berkembang. Sebanyak 10 ribu orang di antaranya meninggal dunia.
