Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says South Africa intends to increase its anti-retroviral (ARV) coverage from the current 2.4 million to 4.6 million people over the next twenty-four months.
Motsoaledi was addressing health care workers from the South African Medical Association in Durban on South Africa's post-2015 Millennium Development Goal (MDG) agenda.
With less than 500 days to go until the MDGs expire, Motsoaledi says much of sub-Saharan Africa has not met many of the health targets set by these goals.
The health related goals focus on reducing childhood mortality, improving maternal health and combating HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria and other diseases.
Motsoaledi also highlighted the proposed National Health Insurance as a driving factor post-2015.
