The Indonesian Government’s responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic at the national level began with the establishment of the National AIDS Commission (NAC) as a coordinating body in 1994 through Presidential Decree number 36 and then renewed with Presidential Decree number 75 in 2006. Current National Strategy and Action Plan focuses on efforts to prevent and reduce the risk for HIV/AIDS transmission, increase PLWHA’s quality of life, and reduce the social and economic impacts of HIV/AIDS/IDS on individuals, families and the society at large. These were implemented aiming to achieve Universal Access to HIV/AIDS related services through prevention, treatment, care and support programs, and also through creating conducive environment for the efforts to happen.
