Iko Safika, Ph.D is a principle investigator (PI) at the Center for Health Policy and Management (CHPM), Faculty of Medicine, Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta and a research fellow at AIDS Research Center (ARC), Atmajaya Catholic University in Indonesia. She is a PI at CHPM under project entitled “HIV/AIDS Policy and Programming within the Framework of Health System in Indonesia”, the Australia – Indonesia Partnership for HIV (AIPH). She received her doctorate in 2009 at the Division of Health Policy Administration of the School of Public Health, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She was a recipient of the UIC-AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP) scholarship by the Fogarty International Center, US National Institute. She was also a postdoctoral fellowship recipient for the International AIDS Society (IAS) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) joint fellowship programme encouraging HIV and drug use research. Prior to this, she was working as a Team Leader with the Eijkman-Oxford Clinical Research Unit in Jakarta, Indonesia. She was also a consultant for the USAID Scaling Up for Most-At-Risk Populations (SUM) project, which aimed at increasing the HIV response in Indonesia. During her consultant work, she has assisted Civil Society Organizations partnered with SUM to monitor and evaluate their HIV programming. Her research interests include HIV risk behavior among key-affected populations (KAPs), particularly focus on understanding the dynamic relationship between the personal attributes of KAPs and the social environment in which they engage in risky behavior. She is also interested in cross-cultural survey methodology and multilevel analysis.
