The Gorontalo Legislative Council (DPRD) is deliberating a draft regional bill on HIV/AIDS prevention and control that includes both administrative and criminal sanctions for any parties discriminating against those with the condition.

The head of the council's special committee (Pansus) deliberating the bill, Syarifuddin Mobiliu, said on Thursday that the draft bill contained at least 19 articles, including sanctions on discriminative behavior against people with HIV/AIDS.

LAOAG CITY, May 22 (PIA) - The Provincial Health Office (PHO) will organize a health forum to bring into the fore the rising cases on Human Immunodeficiency Virus/ Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) in the province.

Dr. Artemio Gambalan, PHO officer-in-charge, said a HIV and AIDS Congress is in the works to make the public aware of the need to prevent the spread of the disease.

Gambalan said the public should be vigilant in their activities noting that the highly-infectious disease can also be acquired other than sexual contact.

Nairobi, Kenya: Kenya recorded a drastic decline in the prevalence of communicable diseases between 2000 and 2013 even as non-communicable ones continue to wreak havoc.

Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia revealed that HIV/Aids prevalence declined from 13 per cent in 2000 to 5.6 per cent in 2013. The number of new cases of HIV, according to Macharia equally declined from 166,000 in 2000 to 91,000 in 2013.

"The rate of transmission of HIV from mother to child has also been on a steady decline even as we aim at achieving our national goal of eliminating mother to child transmission of HIV to ensure a HIV free generation," said Macharia yesterday while addressing members of the World Health Assembly ( WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland.

LUBUKLINGGAU - Dinas Kesehatan Lubuklinggau menyebutkan terdapat 24 orang di Bumi Sebiduk Semare dinyatakan mengidap positif HIV. Jumlah itu sesuai data yang dimiliki Dinkes sejak 2008-2013 dan keberadaan mereka sampai dengan saat ini tidak terdeteksi lantaran menutup diri.

"Yang kita temukan selama ini, kita tidak tahu orangnya siapa. Sebab itu dari laboratorium. Itulah salah satu kendalanya, mereka masih menutup diri sehingga keberadaan mereka susah dideteksi saat ini," kata kepala Dinkes Lubuklinggau, Nawawi Akib, Rabu (21/5).

Ilustrasi Shutterstock BANYUWANGI, KOMPAS.com - Demi menekan bertambahnya jumlah pengidap HIV/AIDS di Kabupaten Banyuwangi, yang sudah menembus angka 1.789 orang, Pemkab Banyuwangi menggandeng ratusan mahasiswa untuk menjadi relawan. Mereka tergabung dalam Kelompok Mahasiswa Peduli AIDS (KMPA).

Menurut Kepala Seksi Bidang pemberantasan penyakit menular Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Banyuwangi Sudarto Setyo, Rabu (21/5/2015), jumlah penderita HIV AIDS di Banyuwangi terbanyak berasal dari usia produktif.
