The report, published in the July 15 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, analyzed data from 24,000 patients and found early symptoms of HIV are often too non-specific for doctors to recognize, meaning they may miss opportunities to refer patients for HIV testing.

"It's not meant to be critical of physicians, it's meant to highlight the need for routine testing," said Dr. Evan Wood, lead author and Canada Research Chair in Inner City Medicine at UBC.

The Australian government's response to the AIDS crisis is widely recognised as being one of the most successful in the world, commended today for its pragmatism, creativity and effectiveness in harm minimisation.

Masyarakat menolak dia dan suaminya untuk tinggal di sana. Bahkan, keluarga mertuanya ikut mengucilkan mereka. Hal itu karena ia mengidap HIV.

Ia tertular virus HIV dari suaminya yang pernah jadi pengguna narkoba. "Saya tahu positif HIV setelah anak pertama saya meninggal beberapa bulan setelah lahir. Waktu itu saya disarankan tes HIV," tutur Cita, ibu rumah tangga sekaligus aktivis Yayasan Rumah Sebaya dalam acara bincang bertajuk "Zaids Care–Getting to Zero", Sabtu (12/7), di Jakarta. Acara itu digelar Yayasan AIDS Indonesia (YAI).

Oleh sebab itu, organisasi kesehatan dunia (WHO) sangat merekomendasikan pria gay untuk mengonsumsi obat antiretroviral sebagai usaha melindungi diri sendiri dari infeksi HIV, selain menggunakan kondom.

ANT--Kampanye Anti-HIV/AIDSMetrotvnews.com, Banjarmasin: Badan Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Perlindungan Anak (BPPA) Kalimantan Selatan mencatat 26 bocah di Kalsel terjangkit HIV/AIDS. "Tujuh di antaranya bayi," kata Kepala BPPA Kalsel Heryati di depan rombongan Komisi VIII DPR saat berkunjung ke Kalsel, Selasa (15/7/2014).

Heryati mengatakan, berdasarkan data Dinas Kesehatan Kalsel, sejak 2002 hingga 2013, terdata sebanyak 707 kasus penderita HIV/AIDS di 13 kabupaten/kota Kalsel. Serangan HIV/AIDS terbanyak menimpa pekerja seks komersial: 222 terkena HIV dan 18 terjangkit AIDS.
