YOGYAKARTA - Kasus penyakit kelamin, HIV/AIDS di Kota Yogyakarta cukup fantastis. Dari 677 kasus di akhir tahun 2013, jumlah itu naik menjadi 714 pada semester pertama di tahun 2014 ini.

Salah satu pencegahan agar terhindar dari penyakit kelamin, adalah menggunakan kondom saat berhubungan intim dengan pasangan yang beresiko terkena penyakit. Sayangnya, kesadaran menggunakan kondom belum dipahami betul bagi banyak kalangan, khususnya pelaku seks beresiko.

Melalui media 60 becak bergambar kondom di bagian selebor, Pemerintah Kota Yogyakarta melakukan sosialisasi arti penting pengunaan alat kontrasepsi itu untuk mencegah penularan penyakit. Becak-becak tersebut ternyata biasanya khusus bagi wisatawan, alias becak wisata yang ada di Kota Yogyaakarta.

Singgung Klinik VCT Belum Ada

PENAJAM – Keinginan anggota DPRD Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) meminta instansi terkait melakukan presentasi penanganan HIV/AIDS ditanggapi Kepala Bidang Kesehatan Masyarakat Dinas Kesehatan (Diskes) PPU H Ammas Alie. Pada dasarnya pihaknya siap melakukan hearing ke DPRD. Tetapi patut jadi perhatian yaitu pentingnya peranan Klinik Voluntary Counseling Test (VCT).

"Ini bukan hanya permasalahan Dinas Kesehatan saja untuk menekan atau melakukan penanganan terkait HIV/AIDS. Butuh peran atau andil instansi dan elemen lainnya. Kami menyambut baik terkait hal itu," ucap Ammas.

District leaders have expressed their concern over the increasing HIV/AIDS prevalence rate of in Karamoja sub region saying that there is a likelihood of some communities being wiped out if the situation is not contained.

Leaders from Moroto, Kotido, Abim, Napak and Nakapiripirit at a stakeholders' meeting in Moroto district blamed the increasing rates of the virus on the mining activities which have opened gates for different people.

The most affected districts, according to local leaders, are Nakapiripirit (Acherer) and Moroto( Rupa) where there is unregulated gold mining which they said has attracted people from different places.

A new initiative called dotHIV officially launched Tuesday with plans to sell .HIV domain names to Web creators as part of a fundraising effort to fight and prevent HIV and AIDS. Companies and individuals can purchase .HIV domain names for $179, and a small donation will be made to an HIV- or AIDS-related charity each time a Web user visits the site.

Money raised from the domain sales is pooled and then redistributed to the charities, says Carolin Silbernagl, CEO of the .HIV Initiative, the nonprofit behind the push. The domains, which Silbernagl refers to as "digital red ribbons" in honor of the international symbol for the HIV virus, are free for HIV organization and nonprofits.

THE United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is elated with the strides Zambia has scored in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

USAID acting Mission Director Patrick Diskin said in Lusaka during the launch of the three orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) Rising Activities, that there have been a lot of developments in the fight against HIV and AIDS since 2002.

"One change that particularly strikes me is the great progress that Zambia has made in the fight against HIV and AIDS during this period," he said.
