The high HIV/Aids prevalence rate in Uganda is a bad signal, UNDP country representative, Almaz Gebru, has said.
The current prevalence rate according to the Uganda AIDS Indicator Survey is 7.3% from 6.4%.
"We are concerned the country is regressing badly. Are we stagnating and are we not moving forward?" Gebru wondered.
Gebru, who was in Uganda in the 1990s said the country was touted worldwide for its championship in the fight against disease but has now lost the steam.

Nigeria's new National HIV/AIDS Prevention Plan has stipulated HIV test before marriage in both Christian and Muslim religions.
Stakeholders who disclosed this on Monday in Abuja at the National Prevention Plan Validation meeting, said its to prevent new infections and curb further spread of the scourge.
Speaking to journalists at the event, the Director, Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, TB, Leprosy and Malaria (BACATMA), Yakubu Usman Abubakar, said there's an improvement in the new HIV Prevention Plan, as it had the inputs of local communities and stakeholders in the states and at national level, while taking into recognition, the peculiarities of the states.

BLITAR - Tiga kecamatan di Kabupaten Blitar, Jawa Timur, yakni Garum, Gandusari dan Kanigoro memiliki jumlah kasus HIV/AIDS yang lebih besar dibanding wilayah lain.Dalam waktu tiga bulan (Januari-Maret 2014) jumlah kasus HIV/AIDS di Kabupaten Blitar mencapai 38 kasus.
"Ini berdasarkan data Komisi Penanggulangan HIV/ AIDS (KPA) di daerah, "ujar Sekretaris KPAD Kabupaten Blitar Eko Wahyudi kepada wartawan.

Nationally, HIV prevalence is 5.6 percent but this varies regionally with the highest being Nyanza region in western Kenya at 15.3 percent.
"It is unacceptable that 30 percent of all new HIV infections among adults occur in young women aged 15-24 years and already has indeed affected every facet of our lives," Cabinet Secretary for Health James Macharia said during the opening of a forum for County First Ladies on Friday.

The cause of death among patients with HIV receiving antiretroviral therapy varied according to age, sex and transmission-risk group, researchers for the Antiretroviral Therapy Cohort Collaboration reported.
The time since starting ART also played a role: AIDS-related deaths decreased with time since starting ART, but the mortality related to non-AIDS malignancies increased.
